Technorati - Top Searches this Hour

Technorati is tracking almost 16 million blogs now so they can produce a pretty good picture of what's going on in the blogosphere. I like checking-in on the "Top Searches this Hour" report - it's a good way to find out what people are talking about.

Top Searches this Hour: (top 5 items, it lists 10)
1. Pat Robertson
2. Ajax
3. Lance Armstrong
4. Intelligent Design
5. Ciny Sheehan

Microsoft Research

Microsoft Research
Stumbled across the Microsoft Research website today. The Scaleable Fabrics U.I. enhancement is worth a look.
"Scalable Fabric is a task management system for the Windows desktop. A central focus area, defined by you, contains windows that behave in the traditional way. When you drag a window into the periphery, it becomes smaller and continues to get smaller the closer you get to the edge of the screen. This makes it possible to keep windows open all the time, and change "minimize" to mean "return to the periphery". Groups of windows can easily be created to represent different user tasks. Switching between groups is done simply by clicking on the task marker flag."

N3-B Jason Sui Speakers

N3-B Jason Sui Speakers
I wouldn't call myself an audiofile - I haven't updated my stereo components in years, but these 150 watt speakers by Jason Sui caught my attention. The N3-Bs sure put the black box look to shame - cool!

Researching where to actually buy a set of these things led me to the weird world of urban vinyl toys - no not that kind of toy. Take a look at some of these things - expensive toys but I think it's because they're limited editions.

Tivo Downloads

Tivo - Downloads?
I love my Tivo - I still rate it as one of the smartest purchases I've ever made. I'm going to love it even more when they start supporting downloadable content. Better yet, they're teaming up with NetFlix to make it happen - I love NetFlix.

Creative Zen Vision

Creative Zen Vision
Am I getting old? Is my perspective on hardware innovation in the consumer electronics category jaded by money lost to early adopter impulses?

There's a lot of buzz in the blogosphere this week about Creative's Zen Vision PMP. A $400 gadget that displays photos, and video content. It can also be used to play audio files but Creative is pitching it as a photo and video player primarily. Why are people excited about this? Do consumers really want to tote around gigabytes of photos and video content? It isn't small - you'd need a "man purse" to carry it around with you. I don't get it.

Japan/Tokyo - "Hard Gay" Comedian

Tokyo - Hard Gay
I dropped in on a post titled "Who is Hard Gay?" while visiting the ODK. Apparently, this guy runs/dances around Tokyo trying to loosen everybody up a little. Funny stuff.
"Hard Gay is a faux homosexual that dresses in stereotypical tight leather clothing and runs around the streets of Tokyo performing acts of "social improvement" while thrusting his hips and yelling "Woooo!". Confused? Maybe it's best if you just see for yourself..." - ODK

Watch the video (WMV) - really, watch it.

Tumor

Benign Meningioma

Wow! David LaPuma (Rutgers student) recently documented the removal of a benign meningioma (tumor) from his head - lots of pictures flickr style. It's a little nasty but I'm sure a lof of people are going to appreciate his effort to share the experience - beats Web MD. Just another cool example of how "social computing" can bring us all closer together. Thanks David!

Virgin Galactic

Virgin Galactic
Want a ride to Space in 2008? Virgin Galactic is taking reservations for space flights now.

Back in 2004 Sir Richard Branson (Virgin), Burt Rutan (Scaled Composites), and Paul Allen (the initial investor), announced a historic partnership. Virgin would license the technology behind SpaceShipOne (SS1) (the ship Burt Rutan developed to win the Ansari X Prize) and start offering public space flights in 2 to 3 years. Watch one of the 1st flights. Still want a ride?

Starting this week you can actually reserve your flight. Additionally, Rutan and Branson announced today that they're forming a new company called The Spaceship Company of all things.
